The Dowling Laboratory (aka, Adjuvant Discovery and Development Lab), within the Precision Vaccine Program (PVP), is recruiting a Research Project Manager. Immunization is key to preventing respiratory infection, a leading cause of death in early life, in elders and immunocompromised individuals. However, due to age-specific immunity, vaccines often demonstrate reduced efficacy in these populations as compared to healthy adults. As such, the Adjuvant Discovery and Development Lab focuses on understanding immune responses in age-specific (newborns/elders) and distinct populations (immune-compromised) and uses our discoveries in these areas to help us to design better vaccines and therapeutics in the future. In addition, the Dowling Laboratory has recently been awarded a federal contract to design, develop and evaluate vaccines for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) in adolescents and adults. The PVP hosts 4 laboratories in total, working in parallel on both basic and translational research in the areas of immunology, infectious diseases and vaccinology. To support these endeavors, the PVP has dedicated administrative staff, a Lab Manager, several post-doctoral scientists, multiple physicians, research fellows and technicians. The Research Project Manager role will focus on project-specific planning and sequencing, putting strategic plans into practice, resource planning, working with vendors, developing schedules/charts/timelines, standardizing routine tasks, developing budgets, helping overcome technical and scientific challenges, assisting with scientific reports and facilitating generation of intellectual property and improving the general workflows of the Dowling Laboratory and PVP staff. Specifically, this role will be significantly focused on coordinating the multi-disciplinary research teams dedicated to advancing adjuvanted anti-opioid vaccines. Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, such as providing the PI insight into "how things are going" and "current obstacles" within each sub-project. Along with a track record of (or intertest/potential to learn) project management skills, some experience with basic laboratory operations, safety compliance, experimental technique (basic immunology and/or vaccinology techniques, such as in vitro cell culture assays as well as animal model studies) are a plus. The position holder will work closely with and under the supervision of Dr. Dowling, whom is a PI of multiple NIH- and industry funded grants and contracts employing novel in vitro and in vivo platforms to model population and age-specific human immunity. Dr. Dowling is also the Lead of the PVP's Operations Team, responsible for overseeing daily management of the "wet" lab spaces of the PVP. Great potential for intellectual growth, authorship on publications, career advancement and contributing to progress on multiple impactful projects, including vaccine clinical trials. The environment is highly collaborative, mutually supportive, and productive. Requirements: -
Bachelors degree in Healthcare Management, Science (e.g., Biology, Immunology, Vaccinology), and/or Business Administration and 5 years of related experience or Master's with 3 years of related experience -
A minimum of one year experience managing multiple highly complex projects. Please note: During a public health emergency, individuals in this role may be expected to take on additional duties to respond to organizational needs.
