The Infection Preventionist is a qualified individual with knowledge of CDC guidelines and definitions of healthcare-associated infections, TJC standards, federal and state regulations. She/He is responsible for the identification, investigations, reporting, prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections among patients and personnel. By authority of the Infection Control Committee, she/he may institute collection of cultures and initiate appropriate isolation precautions. She/He is responsible for assisting with in-service programs related to infection prevention and control. Duties/Responsibilities ?Must have comprehensive knowledge of complete infection control processes in the health care setting. ?Must understand the standard and isolation precautions as set forth by the CDC. Must attend continuing education programs and maintains current knowledge of all aspects of infection control. ?Must have ability to teach principals and practical application of infection control to all levels of health care personnel. ?Must have knowledge of microbiology and modes of transmission of disease entities. ?Must develop infection control policies and procedures. ?Develop and implement the Employee Health Program and assist with follow-up of accidental exposure incidents. ?Complete required reports of reportable conditions to the Public Health Department in a timely and accurate manner. ?Prepare statistics and other pertinent data and reports to the infection control committee at least quarterly. |
