This position is intimately involved in ensuring compliance and the occupant should have a thorough knowledge of all applicable regulations. Additional responsibilities will include (but not be limited to): 1) providing clinical care to all campus animals 2) assisting and collaborating with campus investigators on various protocols 3) assist in directing and supervising the daily operation of DLAM including staffing needs and animal holding room needs 4) providing surgical and anesthesia skills to the research community 5) providing emergency care after-hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis 6) coordinating the health surveillance and quarantine programs 7) conducting clinical assessment rounds 8) participating in all IACUC and other committee activities as coordinated by the Director including meeting attendance, protocol review, facility inspections, and program reviews 9) working with other support entities (i.e. physical plant, OHS, PAM)on campus to insure compliance 10) preparation, implementation and continuous review of standard operating procedures 11) training researchers and animal care staff in animal handling, sample collection techniques, compound administration, and other biomethodologies 12) participating in teaching/training responsibilities on campus and at other contract institutions 13) conducting veterinary consultations on model selection, study design and protocol development and 14) conducting collaborative research and other scholarly activities as well as performing additional duties as assigned.
