Working in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Program Coordinator will provide support to Professor Goodarz Danaei (Bernard Lown Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Health) and the Lown Scholars Program, and activities of Professor Daniel Wikler (Mary B. Saltonstall Professor of Population Ethics). The Program Coordinator will provide support for a varied cluster of research, training, and service projects addressing ethical issues arising in respect to health at the population and global levels. The projects involve a variety of partners and co-workers throughout the world.
The Lown Scholars program, based in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, creates an international community of talented health professionals in low and middle income countries (LMICs) who will use public health tools and strategies to prevent non-communicable diseases, particularly diseases of the cardiovascular system, and promote lifelong health. The program provides funding for training and mentoring and since its establishment in 2008, the program now has 61 scholars from 21 countries.
The Program Coordinator will perform a wide range of complex and confidential administrative and clerical duties to support the administration of the Lown Scholars Program and Professor Wikler's research portfolio.
Duties and responsibilities pertaining to the Lown Scholars Program include, but are not limited to, the following:- Serve as principle administrative contact and liaison for program faculty, scholars, and collaborators
- Develop and implement administrative systems, project planning, overseeing deadlines, tracking deliverables, and overall coordination
- Organize domestic and international travel and accomodations for scholars (once University travel restrictions are lifted)
- In collaboration with the department's core administrative team, help coordinate the Lown Scholar's academic appointments, onboarding, and visas
- Attend program meetings and take thorough meeting notes for distribution
- Provide smooth day-to-day communication with the Lown Program faculty and scholars, HSPH staff, and external program constituencies
- Working in close collaboration with the program's grant manager and finance team, monitor budgets, maintain financial documentation, and prepare paperwork including reimbursements
- Prepare materials and writing first draft and revision of a quarterly electronic newsletter
- Serve as a liaison with related programs and agencies, keeping their supervisor informed of relevant information
- Prepare correspondence, reports, and other written materials
- Coordinate events, meetings, or other symposia
- Prepare and maintain the Lown Program's financial, personnel, and administrative records
- Gather and maintain data and assist in preparing reports
- Develop communication strategies, launch revise and maintain the Lown Program website (WordPress), manage social media platforms (LinkedIn, SLACK) and other program communications
- Other duties as assigned
Duties and responsibilities pertaining to Professor Wikler's portfolio include, but are not limited to, the following:- Act as point of contact for the research team and the public
- Keep track of the scheduling and progress of the projects, including the coordination of decision-making and collaborative research and writing efforts with partners and co-workers
- Conduct library research and assist in the production of reports and publications, as assigned by the supervisor
- Monitor and manage the flow of new and continuing projects, including invitations and proposals
- Assist in the management of the completion phase of projects, including timely delivery of reports and other products, orderly closing of completed projects, and any necessary post-completion follow-through
- Participate in the planning and management of academic training programs and conferences, including correspondence with participants, funding and hosting sources, and co-directors
- Serve as liaison with administrative staff of the department
- Other duties as assigned
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term end date of one year from date of hire, with the possibility for extension.
PLEASE NOTE: The primary work location for this position is Boston, Massachusetts. Until our return to campus, which is still to-be-determined, this interview process and position will be conducted virtually – including virtual interviews, remote onboarding, and remote work. The remote nature of this position is only temporary. Local, on-campus work will be required once the School and this role return to an operational status that supports it.
