The City of Sioux Falls is governed by a mayor/council form of government, established by a home rule charter election in 1995. The executive and administrative power of the City is vested in the mayor. The council is a part-time, policy-making, and legislative body. The mayor and council members are elected to four-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. The City of Sioux Falls employs over 1,300 full-time employees, and approximately 700 temporary and seasonal employees. The City’s 2021 budget is $593.6 million. Over $736 million is scheduled tofinance the City’s Capital Improvement Program during thenext five years.
