The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Public Health and Community Medicine invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in Spatial Epidemiology and Data Science for our 100% online Health Informatics and Analytics (HIA) program. We seek a collegial individual with formal training and experience in Clinical/Healthcare Informatics, and with excellent communications skills, in-person and online teaching experience, scholarship, and a penchant to work in a multidisciplinary university environment. The successful candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities in the Health Informatics & Analytics Master's Program. The faculty member will also develop an independent research program and participate in community and professional service appropriate to a university faculty member. The successful candidate will come with practical expertise and a track record of research in GIS and other data systems, spatial epidemiology, and experience with statistical software packages (e.g., Stata, SAS, R) and those that support creation of static and dynamic GIS maps and spatial analyses (e.g., ArcGIS, ArcPro, R-spatial packages, SatScan, CrimeStat, QGIS). We would particularly welcome applicants interested in working on opioid syndemic projects with topical expertise in substance use and misuse, HIV/AIDS and HCV epidemiology, opioid overdose, substance use disorder in pregnant women and neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, as well as methodological expertise in spatial epidemiology, geostatistical analysis, spatial accessibility analysis, statistical modeling, implementation science, and translational research. Candidates with a commitment to research that benefits communities, who are willing to work collaboratively and provide leadership to build our department capacity in health equity research and scholarship, and who show a genuine appreciation for the importance of teaching and mentoring students, and experience in same, are strongly encouraged to apply. The Department of Public Health and Community Medicine houses the Public Health Programs that confer the Master of Public Health (MPH), the Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH), and Master of Science in Health Informatics & Analytics. The Programs seek to create an educational and workplace environment that fosters active learning, discussion and debate, critical thinking, inclusion and the capacity to work in a multidisciplinary practice environment. Small class size and high accessibility of faculty to students are hallmarks of our Programs. The Department has 40 full-time faculty comprised of public health practitioners, physicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, nurses, dentists, nutritionists, health administrators, lawyers, writers, and environmental and civil engineers. Areas of research concentration include environmental and occupational health, obesity and chronic disease, health policy and health care delivery, health communication, health inequality and social determinants of health, nutrition and infectious disease, substance use and misuse, and global health.

Applicants must have a PhD or MD/MS degree in medical informatics, health informatics, health information management, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and teachers. We expect the individual to be resident faculty (i.e., reside in the Greater Boston area).
