Global Health has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary Research Coordinator. This position will sit in the Global Center for the Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents, and Children (Global WACh) that is based in the University of Washington Departments of Global Health, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Pediatrics. Our mission is to make scientific discoveries, cultivate leaders, and bridge disciplines to advance the tightly connected health and well-being of women, adolescents and children. Global WACh brings together expertise in maternal health from the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, neonatal and child health expertise from the Department of Pediatrics, and vast experience working in infectious disease, health metrics and evaluation, education, clinical research, and service delivery within the Department of Global Health. These disciplines combine under a methodology that views women, children, and adolescents as three populations interconnected along a shared life course. Position purpose and complexities The Global Center for Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents, and Children (Global WACh) is seeking to hire a full-time (100% FTE) Research Coordinator to on studies focused on COVID-19 and pregnancy. The Research Coordinator will work on studies focused on SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in pregnancy within Global WACh including studies evaluating seroprevalence in pregnant women, household transmission and antibody responses in household members, as well as transplacental transfer and durability of maternally derived antibodies in mothers and infants. The position will work under the supervision of Dr. Alison Drake, Assistant Professor in Global Health, and Dr. Sylvia LaCourse, Assistant Professor in Medicine (Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) and Global Health at the University of Washington. The Research Coordinator will also work closely with collaborators within the Departments of OB/GYN, Pediatrics, and Lab Medicine. This position plays a key role in the coordination and management of research activities, including regular communication with investigators and project staff based in Seattle. The Research Coordinator will support the operational activities of the projects, including but not limited to: recruiting and enrolling study participants, scheduling follow-up visits and administering surveys, arranging for sample collection, sample tracking and reporting of results. The Research Coordinator will also assist with developing and revising standard operating procedures and database systems, conducting data quality monitoring, generating progress reports, and responding to staff and leadership inquiries regarding study procedures, and managing ethical approval submissions to institutional review boards, as well as ensure completion of any required reporting to funding institutions. This position requires the ability to compile and synthesize information from the literature and technical discussions to provide input on study design and methods most appropriate for a given project, as well as develop conference abstracts and presentations on study objectives and results. An additional component of the work will include coordination of a growing repository of data and samples from completed studies that can be used as the basis for additional studies. Strong communication skills, prior experience enrolling study participants, experience with data analysis in STAT (or R), familiarity with REDCap, and interest in pregnancy and neonatal health are desired. For qualified candidates, leading data management and analysis may be prioritized over study coordination activities. Participant Interaction (50%): • Consent participants (15%) • Enroll participants (15%) • Follow-up surveys (20%) Reporting (10%) • Responsible for preparing reports and presentations and conduct literature review (10%) Project Coordination (20%): • Assist with coordination ongoing study activities and respond to project staff questions and concerns (5%) • Serve as the liaison for inventory, tracking, and transporting sample collection supplies and specimens between clinical and laboratory sites (5%) • Lead the team’s ethical review process in preparing and submitting materials for boards at UW, and the partner institutions as needed (5%) • Participate in weekly meetings between collaborators in Seattle (5%) Data Management (20%) • Assist with development of data management systems and oversee data quality monitoring (5%) • Contribute to data analysis, report generation, and manuscript writing (10%) • Help to coordinate our growing repository of samples and data collected (5%) POSITION REQUIREMENTS/DEGREE EXPERIENCE: •Master's Degree or PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, or other health-related field •Skills, knowledge, and experience working in epidemiology, or public studies. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, or health-related field •Excellent communication and writing skills •Excellent organizational and project management skills •Ability to work independently •Excellent computer skills with knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (or similar packages) •Fluency in analysis and coding with statistical software packages (Stata, R etc) •Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills with proven ability for effective cross-cultural communication •Experience with REDCap including mobile REDCap databases •Experience with participant informed consent •Fluency in Spanish is a plus CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Due to COVID-19 primary work location may initially be remote. Primary work location with be at the Hans Rosling Center for Population Health on the University of Washington Campus. The Research Coordiantor will have a designated work space in the GWACh work area.
