Position Summary Reporting to the Associate Director for Communications, the Communications Specialist contributes to the research, planning, development, and execution of key Columbia Health communications projects (print, video, & digital). The Communications Specialist deploys compelling content that will resonate with key internal and external audiences. The Communications Specialist will manage a wide range of projects, and serves as a resource on a variety of technical considerations.
Responsibilities Create effective communication strategies for all Columbia Health units Participate in the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of communications standards (content, style, and formatting guidelines for print, video, and digital materials) for respective Columbia Health programs Define production, technical, and budget requirements for approved communication efforts Perform project management duties related to communication initiatives. Contribute to the creation of project plans, define project timelines, set goals and resource needs Utilize insights and data to recommend communications strategy improvements Manage a diverse portfolio of special projects as assigned by the Associate Director and Columbia Health leadership Develop and maintain materials to meet internal and external strategic communications goals Produce both online and offline communications and content for use in presentations, e-mail, websites, social media, and events Design and create mass media announcements on disparate topics including public health law, Columbia Health policy, current health topics, and Columbia Health programs and events Build, maintain, and communicate an organizational timeline for respective department's editorial calendar Write, edit, and publish content for departmental website Plan events, seminars, and press conferences Serve as departmental liaison with internal and external media Communicate with internal and external media regularly Manage media inquiries and arrange interviews, statements, and special public relations events Centralize, manage, and facilitate photography and video archives Build long-term relationships with influencers and key stakeholders Provide strategic guidance to department wide efforts that center on effective communications (e.g. Orientation) Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent experience required Minimum of 2-4 years of related experience Must have extensive background working with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Drupal Proven creative skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Meticulous attention to detail Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and perform most functions with minimal supervision Must be adaptable, able to prioritize work accordingly to meet deadlines while staying on task with daily assignments Ability to concurrently manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment A sense of humor and calm, welcoming demeanor are essential
