Position Summary:

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Program Manager to work within the Central Office Statewide. Reporting to the Statewide Medical Director, the Program Manager develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the Statewide Infection Control Program within the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) to provide a safe environment for inmates and staff. This position is responsible for overall management and coordination of the program. The Program Manager will provide surveillance in order to identify, investigate and record data concerning infections and initiate infection control measures as directed by the Infection Control Committee.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Develops and continuously updates a Statewide Quality Improvement Program for Infection Control.
• Implements surveillance program to establish and evaluate efficacy of staff practices.
• Assists in monitoring and consistently enforces compliance with all pertinent environmental, health, and sanitation codes.
• Initiates investigation of potential infection spread and generates guidelines for staff to follow.
• Develops and implements an in-service program to instruct staff and participates in orientation of new employees to Infection
  Control.
• Provides on-going leadership and guidance by on-site monthly training sessions.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) and a Master’s Degree in Nursing or related health field or a Bachelor’s Degree plus an advanced degree (minimum of a Master's Degree) in Public Health, Epidemiology or a graduate degree in Medicine.
• If an APN, a minimum of one (1) year experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse and one (1) year as an infection control nurse.
• If graduate training in public health, epidemiology, medicine then at least two (2) years' experience in operating/ overseeing the infection control program in a health care setting, is required.
• Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the Master’s Degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent communication skills are required to interact with upper management.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills working in a service environment.
• An ability to interact with a diverse population in a prison setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting.
• Certification by the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred or must be completed within 6- 12 months of hire.

Special Conditions:

• Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
• Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
