The Research Assistant II (RA) position will support one faculty member coordinating and carrying out designated research tasks and projects, assisting with statistical analysis, writing reports and drafting material for manuscripts, progress reports, articles or other documents for public and/or presentations. This position is frequently involved with analyses of datasets from a variety of sources. This position is responsible for organizing, processing, and isolating aspects of specific interest within several of these datasets. This position will provide preliminary quality checks of the data output, it will assess the validity of the data, and work directly with programmers, analysts, and statisticians. The research will focus on areas of price transparency, high-deductible health plans, antibiotic prescribing, and telemedicine. The RA II will provide editing recommendations and facilitate the revision of manuscripts between multiple authors and collaborators for publication in peer reviewed scholarly journals. This position requires understanding of the CMS data policy, NIH public access policy, PubMed central, EndNote and the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS), and HIPAA policies. The RA II will coordinate day-to-day operations of large grant focused work including setting agendas, summarizing weekly calls and working with four project sites on obtaining necessary data analyses. The grant specific work will include performing background research for manuscripts for several ongoing research projects, assisting with background interviews, coding transcripts of interviews to identify key themes of responses. Basic statistical analyses of quality data using SAS/STATA or other statistical software, creating summary tables, and assisting with writing of manuscripts for peer-reviewed literature as well as preparing presentations at conferences and other venues. This position will handle coding reports and with assistance validity checking of other coders as well as assisting with institutional review board review applications and data use agreements. Two or more years related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience). Previous experience using statistical techniques/software required Bachelors or Masters in Public Health, Economics or related fields preferred. College background, preferably in the field of specific research study, with a preference for coursework in a social science field (economics, statistics, or sociology with a quantitative focus). Applicant should have moderate proficiency in using statistical software packages such as STATA/SAS. Must demonstrate interest, experience, or background in the area of health services organization, financing, and delivery. Must be proficient with computer software especially Excel , PowerPoint and Word. Must have the ability and interest to learn other software as needed (EndNote). Independent judgment, patience and excellent communication skills are required to respond efficiently to varied/complex tasks. Organization and attention to detail a must. Flexibility and an ability to work with a team are essential. Must be able to maintain a calm and cooperative attitude during periods of increased staff activity.
