The Division of Pulmonary Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) is one of only a few groups in the United States dedicated to diagnosing, researching, counseling and managing patients with rare genetic forms of lung disease. The Division is engaged in a multifaceted program that includes both clinical and research efforts related to a variety of conditions including asthma, interstitial lung disease (ILD), bronchiectasis, primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Our focus on genetics and genomics enables us the opportunity to bring critical genetic discoveries to the forefront of patient clinical care. The Clinical Research Specialist will work directly with the Pulmonary Division's Research Operations Manager to provide ongoing support for the day-to-day activities of the pulmonary biobank initiative (PBI) and other pulmonary pediatric protocols. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an individual who is motivated to work in an innovative pediatric academic center on cutting edge pulmonary research, with an interest in clinical research, genetics, and project management. This position will be responsible for: - Assist with all aspects of 2 pulmonary pediatric protocols, the pulmonary biobank initiative and BPD program, including: screening and determining patient eligibility, conducting medical record chart review, and conducting in-clinic and/or virtual recruitment and consenting.
- Conduct patient survey data collection either in-clinic or virtually
- Maintain REDCap study databases, including the BPD registry, pulmonary biobank registry and remote e-consent systems.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including preparing amendments and continuing reviews for IRB submissions. Maintain and organize study regulatory binders on an ongoing basis.
- Communicate with pulmonary patients and their families regarding protocol eligibility.
- Assist Research Operations Manager with the design of new programs, including assisting with the writing and development of new IRB protocols, and designing standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate and closely partner with a strong research team that includes the pulmonary division chief, pulmonary clinicians and faculty, research assistants, data managers, and Bioinformatician.
- Provide other project support, as requested by the Research Operations Manager or study PI/Division Chief.
To qualify, you must have: - A Bachelor's degree, and a minimum three years of relevant work experience or Masters of Science and one year of relevant work experience.
- The analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are moderately complex to complex.
- Well-developed communication skills in order to provide critical information to patients.
- Advanced writing skills.
- Extremely mature and dependable, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to operate independently with little supervision
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving and time management skills
- Comfortable with pediatric patients and their families in a clinic setting or via phone, and having the solid ability to convey protocol eligibility information in a clear and concise manner
- REDCap and IRB experience (submitting amendments and continuing reviews) preferred
- Minimum of a 2 year commitment required
