The University of Washington (UW) and Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC) are partnering to implement a program that will integrate COVID-19 testing into workplace outbreak investigations and rapidly scale-up testing among affected workers. Improving access to COVID-19 testing among essential workers in non-healthcare settings is an important part of improving health equity in King County.

We are seeking Workplace COVID-19 testers to work with us on implementing and scaling up COVID-19 testing in non-healthcare workplaces. The work will include going to on-site testing events at workplaces and facilitated observed self-collection of specimens both on-site and remotely (home collection).

Under general supervision of the project co-directors the testers will:

Research Coordination:
  • Travel to employment sites affected by a COVID-19 outbreak
  • Working with the Nurse lead to ensure smooth client flow at the site
  • Collect, label and process specimens according to protocol
  • Instructing patients in self-collection of specimens & observing self-collection
  • Contacting individuals by video call to facilitate home based collection
  • Collecting data to facilitate contact tracing
  • Providing education and teaching on COVID-19 testing, prevention and isolation & quarantine as appropriate
  • Participating in all agency regulatory compliance activities

    Other
  • Cleaning, stocking, inventorying and organizing supplies
  • Performing lab and equipment QA

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, science, or related field and at least 1 years experience to include:

  • Ability to establish rapport with diverse groups of people in a very brief amount of time.
  • Ability to work with communities of people with varied lived experiences in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information at all times.
  • Carry out assignments and responsibilities reliably in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • The ability to travel to local work locations.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board; OR equivalent education/experience and willingness to obtain MA certification in a short timeframe
  • Previous COVID-related work
  • Experience working in or with a local health department
  • Fluency in English is required; bilingual Spanish-English language skills are preferred
  • Prior experience with handling, processing, and transporting of human biological specimens.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record programs (EPIC).
