The University of Washington (UW) and Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC) are partnering to implement a program that will integrate COVID-19 testing into adult family homes in King County to rapidly scale-up testing among affected residents and workers. Improving access to COVID-19 testing in adult family homes is an important part of improving health equity in King County. We (The Department of Medicine’s Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) are seeking Temporary COVID-19 Testers to work with us on implementing and scaling up COVID-19 testing in adult family homes. The work will include going to on-site testing events at adult family homes, collecting COVID-19 nasal swabs, and facilitating observed self-collection of specimens both on-site and remotely (home collection). Duties and Responsibilities Under general supervision of the project co-directors the testers will: •Travel to adult family homes with concern for COVID-19 •Working with the Nurse lead to ensure smooth client flow at the site •Collect, label and process specimens according to protocol •Instruct patients in self-collection of specimens & observing self-collection •Contacting individuals by video call to facilitate home based collection •Collecting data to facilitate contact tracing •Providing education and teaching on COVID-19 testing, prevention and isolation & quarantine as appropriate •Participating in all agency regulatory compliance activities •Cleaning, stocking, inventorying and organizing supplies •Performing lab and equipment QA Minimum Requirements: •Bachelor's degree in Public Health or related field and at least 1 year experience. •Ability to establish rapport with diverse groups of people in a very brief amount of time. •Ability to work with communities of people with varied lived experiences in a non-judgmental manner. •Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken) •Knowledge of medical terminology •Maintain confidentiality of protected health information at all times. •Carry out assignments and responsibilities reliably in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner. •Strong attention to details. •Washington State Driver's License or the ability to provide transportation to work locations with limited or no public transportation services Desirable Qualifications: •Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board; OR equivalent education/experience and willingness to obtain MA certification in a short time frame •Previous COVID-related work •Experience working in or with a local health department •Fluency in English is required; bilingual Spanish-English language skills are preferred •Prior experience with handling, processing, and transporting of human biological specimens. •Familiarity with electronic medical record programs (EPIC).
