The Office of Animal Resources at the University of Iowa is seeking an Animal Caretaker. In the role of an Animal Caretaker, you will join a team of veterinarians, vet techs, and other animal caretakers where you will provide feeding and care of animals. Animal Caretakers do not conduct research, are provided training and encouraged to become certified. This position functions under direct supervision, performs the work necessary in handling, feeding, and caring for animals and animal facilities in compliance with federal, state, and/or university regulations. You will have the opportunity for overtime, and will work a rotating holiday schedule. This position requires a valid driver's license, as well as an ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Driving Record Standards. The program includes animal housing facilities in the Colleges of Medicine, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Public Health. Additional sites affiliated with this program are the State Hygienic Laboratory in Ankeny, IA, the Iowa Raptor Project located near Lake MacBride, and the Lakeside Laboratory located near Lake Okoboji in Western Iowa. The Office of Animal Resources (OAR) provides the expertise, care, and resources necessary for the maintenance of research animals. The OAR's mission is preservation of the University's animal research privilege and maintenance of a quality animal care and use program.
