Job Summary: The Department of Medicine is recruiting into a full-time position jointly funded in response to grant funding from CDPHE through the Health and Humans Services (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and the need for increased research capacity to maintain involvement in COVID-19 therapeutics trials funded by the NIH and Industry. While involving overlapping skill sets and overarching objectives, the position encompasses two separate and well-defined areas of work. The objectives of the project funded under ASPR are to develop and maintain research infrastructure facilitating the rapid conduct of studies on new or evolving public health threats- primarily directed at emerging infectious diseases. Duties in this respect would include evaluation of current research capacity, protocols and infrastructure; development of new processes or curricula, establish processes for maintaining readiness and competencies as well as to lead/supervise training of ancillary personnel. The second portion of this position will focus on all aspects of high-level support and oversight for the conduct of clinical trials, including those dealing with COVID-19. This position requires someone with excellent interpersonal and organization skills and the ability to oversee all aspects of the projects in conjunction with the principal investigator (David Wyles, MD).These aspects include, in part: (1) collaboration and coordination with members of the investigative team, including those from other Divisions within the Department of Medicine, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and ASPR; (2) supervision of research team personnel including coordinators, investigators, laboratory and other ancillary staff; (3) program and research process development and training (4)data collection and management; (5) interacting with the institutional review board; and (5) organization of meetings, working groups, and conference calls. Responsibilities 1. Manages activities carried out under ASPR funding related to the development and maintenance of research infrastructure facilitating the rapid conduct of studies on new or evolving public health threats, primarily directed at emerging infectious diseases. Develops new processes for maintaining readiness and competencies. ~Evaluates current research capacity, protocols and infrastructure for conducting studies on new or evolving public health threats. ~Leads/supervises the training of ancillary personnel. 2. Coordinates and provides oversight for the conduct of infectious disease clinical trials which includes the management of trial activities including staff conducting study-related procedures and data management activities, budget tracking, monitoring for compliance with protocol and applicable policies, maintaining regulatory documentation, and acting as the point of contact for study team and subjects. ~Supervise research personnel in all aspects of trial activities in conjunction with the principal investigator, including mentoring and monitoring team performance. ~Financial duties may include budget preparation, purchasing/contracting, and monitoring expenditures against the budget. 3. Collaborate and coordinate with members of the investigative team and other collaborators regarding program and research development, training, data collection and management, interacting with institutional review boards, and the organization of meetings, working groups, and conference calls. 4. Additional duties may include program reporting, dissemination of results/publication, and assisting with development and submission of grant proposals. 5. Builds and maintains good relationships with teams, direct reports, collaborators and colleagues. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods including data analysis practices. 2. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. 3. Knowledge of protocol adherence and research compliance standards. 4. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with team and participants, and ability to supervise and monitor team members. 5. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across many audiences and mediums. 7. Knowledge of medical terminology. Computers and Technology: 1. Microsoft Office Suite 2. Experience with data collection/entry/validation. 3. Experience with database management, analysis, and reporting. 4. Experience with electronic medical records. Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Master's preferred. Experience: Four years of related experience required. Prior experience leading and supervising teams required.
