The Oncology Pharmacist II will be responsible for: - Providing advanced pharmacotherapeutic expertise in support of the Pediatric Oncology program.
- Providing review, interpretation and support of protocols for patient medication therapy in accordance with established departmental and professional standards.
- Preparing and providing drug information and advising on therapeutic alternatives.
- Developing and implementing drug therapy protocols. Collecting and analyzing drug utilization evaluation data, preparing and presenting recommendations and working with medical staff to develop and implement corresponding changes in prescribing practices.
- Reviewing, filling and dispensing physician medication orders/prescriptions. Interpreting and evaluating medication orders to ensure drug and dosage are appropriate for patient and to identify possible adverse reactions, contacting physician as needed. Checking orders/prescriptions filled by support personnel, verifying products are correctly prepared and labeled. Counseling patients on proper use, storage and side effects of prescribed medications.
- Monitoring and maintaining internal systems, procedures and guidelines for assigned unit/service. Reviewing and updating operations and practicing guidelines for governing area of responsibility.
- Maintaining knowledge of current professional trends and practices through participation in professional organizations and attendance at seminars, conferences and other continuing education programs. Participating in research projects and preparing papers and journal articles for publication or presentation. Serves as a resource for hospital and department staff in area(s) of specialization.
To qualify, you must have: - Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy plus up to one year of post-degree course work and/or an internship and three to four years of previous experience. PharmD degree preferred.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Current MA Pharmacist license.
