Job Summary
Under general direction, responsible for independently accessioning, processing, performing and reporting tests analyses according to physician orders and in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, TJC CLIA, OSHA regulations to facilitate optimum quality patient care. The employee determines that test results meet requirements of the quality control program and if not met, repeats test and ensures results are accurate before reporting. Employee reports test results following department policy, maintaining all necessary documentation and records.
The Infectious Disease Lab Scientist intermittent position is designed to specifically help the Microbiology Lab in the afternoons for about 4 hours on the days scheduled. This position is used to help with limited Microbiology testing, assisting with processing and testing COVID samples and assisting with various other duties in the Microbiology Lab. Previous Laboratory experience is preferred. There will be a short training period before being moved to the afternoon. Schedule will be primary weekdays, however we do require some flexibility for the weekend as needed .
Education 1. Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular or other laboratory science related area, required.
Experience 1. Previous experience in a medical laboratory is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of quality control requirements to ensure pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical quality results.
2. Skilled in analyzing specimens utilizing instrument platforms, testing kits, and manual procedures according to department policy.
3. Ability to log and perform all required maintenance and trouble-shoot equipment and problems to completion and consult with a supervisor when required.
4. Ability to meet turn-around times to ensure timely patient testing.
