1. Serve as RSO on all University NRC radiation licenses and DEEP registrations for radioactive materials and x-ray producing equipment on all Yale campuses. Represent the University in all radiation safety regulatory matters, including licensing, reporting, inspections and other communications. Preferred Education: Doctorate degree in addition to a Masters degree in health physics, radiological health or other functionally-relevant field preferred. Comprehensive certification by the American Board of Health Physics is strongly preferred. At least four years of significant supervisory and managerial experience strongly preferred. Ability to obtain HAZWOPER certification. Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day) University Job Title: Radiation Safety Officer Required Skill/ability 1: Advanced knowledge of radiation, radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices, including irradiators, cyclotrons and other accelerators. Required Skill/ability 4: Knowledge of medical health physics human use of radioactive material, internal dosimetry and applicable NRC and FDA regulations for protecting research subjects. Required Skill/ability 2: Advanced knowledge of occupational and public health risks of radiation, including principles of health physics, standards and variables of exposure. Ability to understand, interpret and convey exposure, measurement and dosimetry information.

Master's degree in health physics, radiological health or other functionally-relevant field. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in health physics, radiological health or other functionally-relevant field and comprehensive certification by the American Board of Health Physics. Eight years or more of progressively responsible health physics experience in a radiation safety program at a research university, government research facility, medical research center or a similar research/higher education work environment. |
