Tufts University is seeking adjunct faculty to teach in both our on campus and online MPH programs. We welcome candidates with diverse academic backgrounds, including but not limited to public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, health policy, health management, behavioral science, and social determinants. We are especially interested in candidates with applied public health experience in community, government, and consulting settings. Our teaching needs vary by semester, but are primarily in in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health practice and implementation science/program planning. Adjuncts will be appointed to the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Adjunct faculty will be engaged on a semester by semester basis, with options to teach during the Fall (September-December), Spring (January-May), and Summer (May-August). Full courses meet once per week for 14 weeks. The appointments generally extend beyond the semester in which the course is taught and will remain active as long as the adjunct remains engaged with the department through teaching or other activities. Responsibilities and expectations vary depending on whether teaching will be in the online vs. on campus program. On campus program Adjuncts in the on campus program will be expected to teach in person on the Boston campus. Classes meet once per week for 3 hours. For most courses there is an existing syllabus and course materials which will be shared before the course, however adjunct faculty will be expected to update the syllabus for their session. They will also be responsible to adapting course materials to their teaching style and to establish a course site on CANVAS, our learning management system. Online program Adjuncts in the online program are expected to teach courses via Zoom and do not need to be on the Boston campus. Before beginning to teach in the online program the adjunct must complete a training in how to use the teaching platform. Classes meet once per week for 90 minutes. Courses have asynchronous lectures that have been developed by faculty. Live sessions led by adjuncts will focus more on in-class activities to apply course concepts. Adjuncts teaching in the online program will also be required to have weekly meetings with other instructors teaching the same course to develop teaching plans for the live sessions and share best practices.
