The Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health studies the frequency, distribution, and determinants of disease in humans, a fundamental science of public health. In addition to pursuing ground-breaking global research initiatives, we educate and prepare future medical leaders and practitioners as part of our mission to ignite positive changes in the quality of health across the world.

The HaSET (

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • Experience with STATA required
  • 5+ years of related experience required
  • Experience working with complex databases and in data system management required
PLEASE NOTE: Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit work samples, and finalists will be administered a data management assessment/exercise.

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Data Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field strongly preferred
  • Experience with and knowledge of a range of data management and statistical software (such as R) and web-based electronic data capture strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of study design, sampling methods, and statistical methods, including longitudinal data analysis strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with cloud hosting environments (such as AWS, GCP) strongly preferred
  • Experience with a version control system (such as Github) strongly preferred

The following skills and experiences are also preferred:
  • Experience with Tangerine or similar data collection platform
  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems such as missing data and data quality
  • Knowledge and adherence to ethical conduct in research and good clinical practice guidelines
  • Experience writing and deploying cross-platform code (Windows, OS X, and Linux)
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Works well independently and takes initiative
  • High level of maturity and empathy with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effectively communicating with non-native English speakers
  • Experience explaining technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Experience working in low and middle-income countries
  • Prior mentorship experience, and experience overseeing and prioritizing the work of other staff
  • Interest in public health and maternal and child health
  • Experience abiding by and following IT technical standards, policies, and codes of conduct
  • Experience with and knowledge of a range of data management and statistical software (such as R) and web-based electronic data capture strongly preferred
