The University of Washington's Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is considered to be among the top five Divisions of General Internal Medicine in the nation. General Internal Medicine, established in 1985, has rapidly grown to be the largest Division in the UW Department of Medicine. The Division has a workforce of approximately 400, including nearly 300 faculty members who are known for their outstanding research, teaching and patient care. The Division conducts its activities at the UW Medical Center (UWMC), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS), with research sites located at multiple sites across Seattle. GIM has an annual budget of nearly $50 million including over 30 research faculty, 30 current grants and $12 million in annual grant expenditures. The Division's Clinical Practice at HMC and UWMC generates gross billings of over $14 million annually with nearly 200 faculty members participating in direct patient care. Faculty and staff are spread between 10 sites; including Harborview, Metropolitan Park, Pat Steel, the University District, and Fremont, with 90 staff spread amongst these locations. The Division of GIM has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary, Full-Time (100% FTE) Research Coordinator. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Graham Nichol, this position will coordinate clinically a multi-center study of patients tested for SARSCOV-2. The Research Coordinator will have major responsibilities in the day-to-day management of the study and serve as a central contact for the study. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for working with each site to monitor and improve enrollment, follow-up and collect data. The Research Coordinator will assist the PI and Research Supervisor in developing detailed study protocol and research assessment instruments, and will be contribute to monitoring and improving the processes of data collection at each participating site. The individual will contribute to the coordination of weekly research team meetings, and regular meetings with representatives of participating sites. The Research Coordinator position will be based at Harborview Medical Center. This position will be funded by the Centers for Disease Control for one year, with opportunities for extension of the primary project, as well as work related to ancillary and other studies. The study will provide high quality research that will potentially have a broad impact on persons with SARSCOV-2 infection and COVID-19 illness. This position requires someone with program manager and clinical coordination experience. The PI must have confidence in the processes used and work products of this individual and must be able to rely on his/her ability to be priority-driving and move projects forward with professionalism, accuracy and timeliness. This individual must have excellent organizational and communication skills, skills in qualitative and quantitative approaches to data collection, management, and reporting. In addition, it is desirable that the individual should have experience in submitting IRB applications and experience in study participant recruitment and consent. This position will provide project management, clinical coordination and support for the CDC study. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Human subject research activities – 50% •Ensure timely enrollment of study participants and explanation of research procedures to participants. •Work with multiple sites to facilitate their successful screening and enrollment, timely explanation of research procedures and adherence to required informed consent procedures •Actively participate in recruitment and oversight of human subject’s/participants; specimen processing, storage, tracking •Develop, implement and maintain plans for subject retention •Maintain contact with local health care providers. •Coordinate with CPEC investigator and research nursing supervisor and other study site personnel for multi-site studies. •Oversee human subjects recruitment. •Interact with human research subjects in achieving goals of our studies, answering subjects’ questions, and explaining research procedures and goals; administer tests and record observations •Assist in the preparation of human subject applications, consent forms, and modifications in compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements; •Maintain copies of regulatory documents (IRB) and personnel training verifications and other certifications. Assure compliance with regulations. Project management activities – 20% •Guide project direction and create project timelines and deliverables for PI; track and manage timelines. •Contribute to weekly research team meetings and regular meetings with local stakeholders; including persons from HMC, and other sites. •Contribute to preparation and submissions of progress reports to CDC. Manage outside partner relationships – 20% •Serve as primary contact for all outside partners. •Communicate by email, videoconference, phone and in person with local clinical and research staff as well as other collaborators as required. •Facilitate and schedule meetings and conferences. Data collection activities – 10% •Develop and coordinate detailed study protocol and research assessment instruments. •Develop and coordinate evaluation metrics with PI and co-investigators. •Oversee the data collection process and assist the Research Coordinator as needed. •Monitor and manage collected data; perform periodic quality checks to ensure the integrity of the data collected in collaboration with local research staff, other site staff as well as the study’s analytic core staff. REQUIREMENTS: · Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field AND four years’ experience Additional Requirements: · Recent experience working in an emergency department and intensive care setting. · Qualitative and quantitative research methods. · Expert ability in Microsoft (Word, Excel, Outlook) · Demonstrated experience contributing to scholarly publications · Clear communication skills · Strong organizational and time management skills · Detail-oriented, pro-active, and flexible Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED · Recent Emergency Nursing Experience. · Master’s degree in public health, social services or allied health professions.
