A full-time Research Assistant position is currently available with Dr. Leonard Zon, Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, HHMI Investigator, HSCI Faculty Member, and Director of the Stem Cell Program at BCH. The lab utilizes zebrafish as a genetic model to study the role of gene expression in hematopoiesis, cancer and stem cell development. Under supervision, you will perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and techniques as well as work with zebrafish. The position will perform standard molecular biology techniques, microinjections, microscopy of zebrafish morphology, tissue culture and animal husbandry. It is a wonderful opportunity for those interested in graduate school, medical school, dentistry, nursing, and other health related professions. According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, perform a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy. Assist in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor -
Performing the following techniques typically required for the laboratory/study: Maintain records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed. Maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. Sterilize and clean glassware, prepare media and other materials using appropriate procedures. Inventory supplies alert supervisor to needed supplies, or mix standard reagents. Process order for supplies and/or animals -
Attend courses in safety procedures for handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive and toxic materials. Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols -
Conduct literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I. Attend courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information -

The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree. -
The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. -
