The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Augsburg University invites applications for a one-year visiting position in Statistics to begin August 15, 2021. Statistics is housed within the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (a total of 12 full-time faculty), and located in the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion which opened in 2018. Augsburg's location in Minneapolis allows for engagement and fruitful collaboration with statisticians at the many colleges and universities in the Twin Cities as well as local research labs and industry which includes many Fortune 500 companies. Ideal candidates are teacher-scholars who are committed to excellence in teaching and eager to contribute to a richly diverse community of learners through teaching both Statistics and Data Science. Faculty get to know students well with normally no more than 25 students per class (often smaller). A typical teaching load is three courses per semester and usually includes both introductory and advanced classes. The anticipated teaching assignment for this position includes introductory statistics, introductory statistics for STEM (with R), statistical modeling, and a new introduction to data science course. Some curriculum development will be part of the job expectations. We anticipate in-person teaching, but final course delivery modes will be determined by public health guidelines and may involve teaching online synchronous (over Zoom) or a combination of modalities. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or masters degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credits in Statistics. Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. during the 2021-22 academic year. With approximately 1,000 students living on campus, Augsburg engages students in a wide range of co-curricular activities, including NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics. At both undergraduate and graduate levels, students actively engage in international travel and intercultural experiences that broaden their view of the world and deepen their engagement in it. Augsburg's main campus is located in the vibrant Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, one of the most diverse areas in the Twin Cities.
