Provides visionary leadership to the Public Health Deputy area to advance the agency's vision and mission for Public Health in South Carolina. Responsible for providing overall strategic direction and leadership for Public Health. Ensures the delivery of appropriate, timely and quality services in DHEC Health clinics and performance of central office activities. Uses Public Health framework (10 Essential Public Health Services) to lead and guide the Public Health Deputy area. Provides direct oversight for Public Health staff including the Public Health Chief of Staff, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Directors of the Bureaus of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control, Public Health Preparedness, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Community Health Services and Public Health Data Analytics and Informatics.
 
Develops strategic and transformative initiatives in collaboration with other members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to advance DHEC's vision and mission. Establishes a results driven approach to Public Health programs and creates clear goals and key performance indicators. Functions as the face of the agency as it relates to Public Health programs, and serves as the primary spokesperson for Public Health-related media inquiries. Communicates with legislators, DHEC Board, constituents, and professional organizations on Public Health issues. Participates in legislative meetings and committee hearings (as requested) and attends DHEC Board meetings. Leads or participates in internal and external committees, workgroups and task forces.
 
Represents the agency at national, regional, state and local events. Develops collaborative partnerships at all levels and facilitates networking and coalition building. Engages and collaborates with key stakeholders to strengthen the public health system and promotes the State Health Assessment and Improvement Plan. Serves as the agency's Senior Deputy to the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). Assesses Public Health Deputy area's organizational structure, resource needs and strengths, and formulates strategic direction and initiatives based on such assessments. Develops and fosters a culture of exceptional customer service and continuous quality improvement. Provides clinical guidance and recommendations to the Agency Director on urgent and emergent Public Health issues. Performs other duties as assigned.
