This Clinical Research Assistant I will: - Under immediate supervision, coordinate the activities of daily operations of clinical research studies. Responsible for the screening, consenting, recruitment, and selection of patients for studies. Prepare IRB and/or CCI documentation and submissions in conjunction with the Principal Investigator and /or other members of the research team. Conduct data collection activities and prepare analytical reports regarding results of studies
- Consent and recruit patients for research studies through personal interviews, telephone calls, and written communications with patients/families. Provide detailed background information regarding studies to families, communicate all policies and procedures, and respond to all inquiries. Evaluate suitability of prospective study candidates and make selections based upon clinical knowledge of each study
- Coordinate activities between the hospital and research laboratories to ensure correct testing/processing and send out instructions specific to the study. Coordinate the collection of surgical specimens, and the delivery of specimens from the operating room to the research laboratory. Communicate project policies and procedures to personnel. Monitor and review data collection and data entry, and informed consent procedures - ensuring consistency of application for each study
- Design and implement research studies to examine and address healthcare disparities in pediatric surgery at the patient and provider level across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic lines
- Collaborate with the Plastic & Oral Surgery Department's Steering Committee for Justice, Equity, and Inclusion to implement compelling and interactive diversity initiatives at the staff and healthcare provider level
- Coordinate and prepare the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Committee on Clinical Investigations (CCI) submissions, together with the Private Investigator of the study
- Create and prepars data collection statistical reports and analytical summaries for distribution to study research team for review and analysis. Write scientific manuscripts and summary papers of studies for submission to medical journals as may be requested
- Participate in the training of newly hired research study assistants as required
- Perform other miscellaneous administrative duties as required
To qualify you must have: - A Bachelor's degree.
- The analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are moderately complex to complex.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in order to provide critical information to patients, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and the ability to mediate fair solutions.
- Advanced writing skills.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills to facilitate diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team to carry out short- and long-term clinical research projects
- Strongly suggested: familiarity or personal experience with diversity, equity ,and inclusion principles
