Position Number: 00059 School/College: School of Nursing Job Description: The School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applicants for the inaugural position of Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) that aligns with the missions of the School of Nursing and UAB. This is a senior administrative position. The successful candidate should be a Full Professor with tenure, possess a PhD in Nursing Science or a closely related field, and have a record of funded research and scholarship in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion. The position includes 50% administrative effort and 50% effort in teaching, research, and university/professional service. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing and is responsible for working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and the school's communities of interest to develop and implement the strategic direction of the School’s DEI activities which includes promoting a diverse, equitable, inclusive and respectful environment. Consistent with the goals of the School, the Associate Dean will lead the diversity initiatives on student and community initiatives and tripartite missions across the School, with a focus on work with the Offices of Academic Affairs, Student Success and Clinical and Global Partnerships. The Associate Dean will provide leadership in: As a member of the School of Nursing leadership team, the Associate Dean for DEI will serve as a liaison for the school with the UAB Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, serve as an Equity Advisor, represent the School’s DEI interests with the other UAB schools, including the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, School of Health Professions, School of Optometry, and School of Public Health, and will represent the School of Nursing at selected community and professional meetings in Alabama, nationally, and internationally. The Associate Dean will enthusiastically and expertly collaborate to advance the culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to reinforce our aspirational goals of equity in all aspects of education, scholarship, and healthcare. The School of Nursing's legacy of leadership is focused on innovative programs of research, education, and clinical practice as evidenced in more than 18,000 alumni serving as expert clinicians, executive nurse leaders, deans and directors of nursing programs, nurse scientists, advanced practice registered nurses, and other professional leaders. The School is ranked in the top 10 percent of nursing schools nationwide by U.S. News and World Report and offers innovative baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate, master's, post-master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral programs.
