The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR), an organization within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is responsible for the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials and observational studies for several major national and international NIH-funded clinical research networks. CBAR employs over 100 statisticians and epidemiologists including Harvard faculty, research scientists, and staff. Investigators within CBAR have provided statistical leadership and support for clinical research networks for more than 30 years. Currently this includes infectious disease networks such as: the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Groups (ACTG), the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group (IMPAACT), and the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS). Results from studies have helped to establish the paradigm for the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases, and contributed to international treatment and prevention guidelines.
CBAR is looking to hire a Biostatistician III to act as a senior statistician, collaborating directly with medical researchers in the design, implementation, analysis and publication of Phase I through Phase IV clinical trials, diagnostic studies and observational studies. This position will also serve on internal committees. The primary focus initially will be on studies undertaken by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) in the Tuberculosis Transformative Science Group (TB TSG). The TB TSG is responsible for development, implementation, and oversight of the ACTG research agenda related to the treatment and prevention of TB with and without HIV co-infection.
The primary objectives of the TB TSG are to:- Develop shorter, safer treatment regimens for drug-susceptible and resistant TB disease
- Identify optimal TB preventive therapy for drug-susceptible latent TB infection and household contacts exposed to multi-drug resistant TB
- Identify regimens for the treatment of TB meningitis and isoniazid-monoresistant TB (areas of high unmet medical need)
- Evaluate TB vaccine immunogenicity and use in the prevention of TB infection and recurrence in adults
- Optimize TB treatment and prevention in TB/HIV co-infected people
Additional aims include conducting transformative research to:- Describe drug-drug interactions involving anti-TB therapy and ART
- Improve TB diagnostic assays and biomarkers to predict and detect disease and to monitor response to therapy
- Develop novel TB clinical trial designs
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:- Provide expertise as a senior statistician; Collaborate independently with the medical researchers of the ACTG in the design, conduct, analyses, and publication of national and international clinical trials and other clinical studies;
- Conduct ongoing, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized statistical techniques and programming; Review proposed protocol and study methodology, and other related factors to ensure conformance with accepted statistical principles, recommending revisions and modifications;
- Write statistical considerations for protocol documents and study proposals, according to appropriate statistical methods;
- Oversee development of data collection forms and proposed data management methods to ensure that the data to be collected will meet study objectives and allow valid analyses;
- Develop randomization and stratification materials in compliance with protocol design;
- Ensure the integrity of data collection, review, compilation and analyses by monitoring protocols, databases, and procedures to enforce compliance with proper statistical techniques;
- Collaborate with clinicians on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications documenting study findings. Develop and complete first author peer-reviewed manuscripts when requested;
- Maintain professional knowledge and expertise as well as an awareness of emerging scientific areas;
- Create and execute project work plans, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements;
- Effectively apply methodology and enforces project standards;
- Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately;
- Deliver engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
