Program Purpose PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available. Program Description The pharmacy informatics residency program offers a one-year PGY2 certificate or a two-year program that offers a PGY2 certificate and a master's degree in medical informatics or public health. The resident receives training on a variety clinical applications that impact patient care. The purpose of the residency is to develop pharmacy practitioners with marketable job skills in clinical informatics and automation. They also develop a working knowledge of medication information systems and their design, development, and integration into clinical practice. Program Goals Highlights of Experience Rotations will vary depending upon the needs of the resident. Rotation opportunities are available in a wide variety of clinical areas, IT technical operations, automation experiences, and clinical decision support. The resident benefits from the collaborative relationship between pharmacy, nursing and hospital informatics as well as the flexibility in rotation scheduling. See our website for more information.
