The Director, Clinical Pharmacy Programs oversees the management and the quality of Clinical Pharmacy services at BIDMC. Oversees acute care and ambulatory pharmacy programs and services at the medical center and associated centers and clinics. Leads formulary management and stewardship and serves as a key member of the BIDMC as well as the BILH Pharmacy and Therapeutic committees. Provides educational and developmental opportunities for the pharmacy staff and students; manages pharmacy costs through the implementation and maintenance of clinically- appropriate intervention/utilization programs; and is responsible for medication use evaluation programs to ensure appropriate, safe and cost effective medication therapy.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Leads and directs successful clinical programs and services with acute care and ambulatory pharmacy teams. Developing evidence based and best practice pharmacy led programs and patient management in partnership with the multidisciplinary teams.
2. Develops, manages and monitors results of the Medication-use Optimization and Standardization. Areas include: Clinical Interventions Program; Pharmacoeconomic considerations of drug therapy selection/utilization with potential development of treatment algorithms; Drug Information Service; Medication Reliability
3. Directs clinical pharmacy practice in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulation of the MA Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, and the Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Maintains certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration.
4. Identifies, creates and implements clinical pharmacy program short and long term goals, in coordination with senior pharmacy leadership and with alignment to BIDMC and BILH clinical goals.
5. Responsible for development, implementation, administration, and quality assessment of new pharmacy policies and procedures related to clinical programs in collaboration with the senior pharmacy leadership. Directly responsible for overseeing the activities of the Colleges of Pharmacy preceptors. Oversight and developing the accredited ASHP Residency program and the residents.
6. Serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics P&T Committees of BIDMC and BILH; responsible for the correspondence and admin duties of this committee. Serves on subcommittees of the P&T committees as appropriate.
7. Collaborates with other clinicians and allied health professionals at BIDMC and within BILH to develop practice standards and therapeutic algorithms.
8. Develops and Ensures compliance with the components of all clinical and operational pharmacy services necessary for JCAHO accreditation. Responsible for overseeing the coordination, implementation and ongoing evaluation of all departmental quality assurance programs.
9. Maintains an active practice site, or where appropriate, a consultative role, within a patient care setting at BIDMC and oversee the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patient populations. Attend rounds in the practice site and serves as a drug information resource. Serve as a drug consultant for nurses, physicians and allied health professions. On-call/shifts may be required.
10. Oversees all pharmacy education programs and be a role model and educator for the pharmacy staff in terms of pharmacy practice and patient care. Participates in the quarterly Pharmacy Research Committee meeting to ensure that the highest quality of clinical work destined for publication meets the standards set forth by the committee.
11. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 2-3 Indirect Reports: 11-20
