Location: Hyde Park Campus Job Description: - Conducts and reviews needs assessments of Latinx communities and partners as related to cancer risk, risk reduction, screening and other health-related issues, and makes recommendations about program priorities based on these assessments.
- Assists with the development and implementation of outreach and engagement programs in the Latinx communities and disseminates culturally appropriate, evidence-based information and educational materials on cancer prevention and treatment and clinical trials participation.
- Works with internal and external partners to manage the logistics and coordination of Office of Community Engagement and Cancer Health Equity (OCECHE) activities both on and off campus, including in the community, and organizes and supports committee and Latinx Cancer Control Task Force meetings.
- Assists with the coordination, facilitation, and reporting of the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant Community Engagement and Outreach supplement grant (called Community Outreach Research Engagement (CORE)) aimed at integrating community outreach and engagement across the cancer research continuum.Â
- Evaluates and documents performance of programs, recommending or making improvements when appropriate.
- Prepares and disseminates program communications, including creating and coordinating dissemination of culturally appropriate program materials.
- May assist in the preparation of grant applications and program reports.
- Serves as a liaison between Comprehensive Cancer Center investigators conducting research relevant to the Latinx community/Hispanic cancer patients and community/advocacy organizations focused on this population.
- Independently organizes and conducts community-based education sessions in cancer focused topics for the general community, as well as part of OCECHE Employee Engagement programming and Community Health Worker training.
- Evaluates and documents performance of programs, making or recommending improvements when appropriate.
- Prepares program communications, including creating and coordinating dissemination of program materials.
- May assist with fundraising efforts, including writing grant proposals.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Education: - Bachelorâ™s degree in public health, communications, biomedical, life sciences, community engagement.
Experience: - Knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline such as establishing community partnerships, working with diverse community intermediaries, public health and volunteer organizations
- Familiarity with cancer and Chicagoâ™s Latinx communities.
Preferred Competencies - Fluent in Spanish.
- Project management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Chicagoâ™s diverse communities.
- Strong communication skills, including public speaking, group facilitation, and using digital platforms (e.g., Zoom and social media).
Working Conditions - Frequent travel to Chicago communities and car required to carry materials to and from community events and programs.
- Occasional evening and weekend work based on needs of community and academic programming.
- Ability to lift 10+Â pounds (e.g., boxes of materials for community programs and events).
