The Lead Pharmacy Technician shall be responsible for: - Filling and delivering medication orders/prescriptions for hospital inpatients and outpatients. Dispenses standing inpatient medication orders in individual cassettes following computer generated lists and fills new orders/prescriptions from physician orders. Schedules provision of special syringe, oral dosage and IV products as requested. Delivers cassettes and individual medications to units and collects new medication orders according to established procedures and schedules.
- Preparing patient medications in accordance with established protocols, methods and techniques. Measuring, mixing and compounding automated TPNs, irrigations, chemotherapy drugs and parenterals and oral medications in specified volumes, dosages and concentrations.
- Performing quality controls checks of medication orders and doses distributed following established procedures and schedules. Comparing pharmacy and nursing records to ensure match of medication orders.
- Responding to requests for routine factual information within scope of authority, referring inquiries requiring medical or administrative judgment to appropriate personnel.
- Serving as liaison to inpatient units regarding dispensing and distribution of patient medications. Communicating with pharmacists and other technical staff to plan and provide services that meet unit and patient needs.
- Receiving and fills pharmaceutical supply requests for nursing units, satellite locations and other areas. Monitoring, restocking and rotating supplies, including controlled substances, removing and replacing outdated products and processing related patient charges and credits.
- Restocking emergency code cart trays and prepares and maintains corresponding logs and records.
- Coordinating and providing training to new technicians in job duties, procedures and techniques.
- Monitoring daily workload and assists pharmacist and/or pharmacy technician supervisor in organizing, directing and prioritizing workflow to meet required schedules and production requirements in designated area.
- Performing routine quality control and equipment maintenance tasks according to established procedures and schedules and prepares and maintains related logs and records.
In order to qualify you must have: - A high school level of educational development and three years of Pharmacy Technician experience.
- Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situations in which the information or problems are relatively routine.
- Ability to understand and respond to written or verbal instructions. Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions, questions or requests for information.
- MA Registration as Pharmacy Technician as well National CPht Certification.
