The Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Responsibilities include biostatistics collaboration and related methodological development with investigators in the Northwestern University Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center (SOQIC). SOQIC is a large, nationally prominent, collaborative health services, outcomes, quality improvement, and health policy research enterprise. SOQIC research spans all surgical specialties, as well as quality improvement and health policy research in non-surgical areas. Specifically, SOQIC conducts extensive work with large national datasets such as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) claims, engages in hierarchical modeling to compare hospital quality, and performs survey development, data analytics, and health policy evaluations. Applicants with an interest in conducting research in related areas of statistical methodology and/or with a track record of healthcare quality related collaborations are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities also include collaboration and partnership with SOQIC’s PhD-level research faculty, supervision of Master’s level statistical analysts and teaching one quarter-long course per year in the Master of Science in Biostatistics or Master of Public Health Program. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biostatistics or Statistics, experience and interest in collaborating with biomedical investigators, scientific productivity related to biostatistical methodology, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of multidisciplinary teams. We seek an inquisitive individual who is amenable to investigating innovative methodologies or develop new methodologies, if needed. An independent research focus that complements SOQIC research priorities would be encouraged. Academic primary appointment will be in the Division of Biostatistics, Department of Preventive Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University with a secondary appointment in the Department of Surgery. This full-time faculty position carries the title Assistant or Associate Professor and is part of the Team Scientist faculty track. The Department of Preventive Medicine’s Division of Biostatistics consists of more than 20 faculty biostatisticians who provide a collegial environment, with a departmental history of mentoring junior faculty biostatisticians. As part of general faculty responsibilities, participation in department meetings as well as departmental, school and university-wide committees is expected. Participation in scientific meetings and scholarly activities to build national reputation are encouraged and expected. The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled.
