Essential Functions: The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the undergraduate-serving Department of Public Health. We are seeking an active and engaged colleague who has research and teaching strengths in environmental health and justice (interests may include, but are not limited to, built environment, neighborhood effects, climate justice, sustainability, disaster preparedness, etc). We encourage applications from persons with experience conducting community-based research serving particularly vulnerable, underserved, and/or urban populations.Candidates should have substantive scholarly expertise in one or more defined areas in which they could develop collaborative research efforts in the metropolitan Detroit area. We seek a colleague with an active research program and track record of published scholarship, as well as an ability to draw on this research to inform their teaching and service. Candidates engaged in multidisciplinary research, community-based research collaborations, as well as environmental justice and advocacy research are encouraged to apply. We also value candidates committed to evidence-based intervention research employing traditional quantitative and non-traditional qualitative methods (e.g., ethnography, Photovoice, and/or mixed methods).Candidates will be expected to teach required courses in the undergraduate public health curriculum. The preferred candidate will have teaching strengths that support courses such as Environmental Health, Methodological Approaches in Public Health, and/or Social and Behavioral Aspects of Public Health. Candidates will also be encouraged to develop new elective courses that align with their substantive area of expertise within environmental public health. In addition, candidates will be expected to perform meaningful service on department, college, and university committees; participate in departmental activities; serve their profession/discipline and/or community partners (if appropriate); and complete other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Candidates should possess a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent doctoral degree with expertise in environmental health, environmental sciences, environmental justice, or closely related social/behavioral science field; persons who will have their doctoral degree conferred by August 15, 2021 are eligible to apply.
