Job Title: University Dean for Research (University Dean) Job ID: 22046 Location: Central Office Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular POSITION DETAILS The City University of New York's Office of Research seeks a University Dean of Research to lead the Research Development Division of the Office of Research (OR), providing support for students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty and foster collaborative and transdisciplinary research innovations. The Dean will enhance a growing and innovative research milieu for CUNY and its stakeholders across the City, State, nation, and beyond. CUNY's Office of Research supports the research and scholarly pursuits of the CUNY community from students to senior faculty; provides assurance to funding agencies and to the public that University research is conducted in accordance with the highest ethical and compliance standards; and facilitates and enhances technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, and economic development activities. The University Dean for Research (UDR) will serve as a senior strategic advisor to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and lead the Research Development division, which provides support to the CUNY research community. The UDR will work to ensure that the University engages in purposeful discovery at the frontiers of innovation, and develops the next generation of thoughtful, impactful scholars. The UDR will support faculty research by overseeing internal grant programs, promoting interdisciplinary and inter-sector research collaborations, and developing and implementing a Research Fellows Program. The UDR will support students by overseeing undergraduate research programs and facilitating internship opportunities, and will provide support to postdoctoral fellows. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, the University Dean's responsibilities are as follows:
QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. The Dean will hold an earned doctorate, preferably in a STEM discipline, with a strong background in research and teaching, and an active extramural funded research program. The successful candidate will have experience in leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration in a dynamic academic environment; will have effective consultative, negotiation, and communication skills; and will be committed to diversity and promoting a culture that nurtures inquiry and scholarship across multiple disciplines.
