The College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences (CNMS) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position for a Translational Life Science Technology (TLST) class being taught in Fall 2020 at its branch campus at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland. The TLST degree is a Bachelor of Science for graduates of community college or junior-level students from 4-year institutions interested in working in the biotechnology industry. The program educates students on translational science, which is the process of turning scientific discoveries into life-saving solutions, by combining the theory of a traditional life science degree with hands-on, real-world examples of the work conducted in a biotechnology company. Currently, the TLST program is looking for an adjunct faculty member to teach advanced biomanufacturing. The course builds upon the foundation of bioprocess design principles and focuses on actual design projects, and includes components associated with financial analysis. Students taking this course are expected to demonstrate a working knowledge of these principles in their design choices, reports and presentations. TLST classes are typically 1-2 times per week for a fifteen-week semester, likely in the mornings or evenings to accommodate the schedule of the students.
