Assistant Professor - Preventive Medicine, Memphis - 19000001LC Description The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Department of Preventive Medicine is growing its investment in clinical and translational research and is seeking Physician Researcher candidates for a full-time, tenure-track, faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. This position comes with up to 80% of effort protected for research, with the other 20% allocated to clinical practice responsibilities. A dual appointment in a clinical department would be feasible as appropriate.
The successful candidate will have a clinical research program focused on key health outcomes. Ongoing research topics in the Department of Preventive Medicine include diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory disease, obesity/weight management, mobility, neurodevelopment, addiction, caregiver health, cancer, epigenetics, behavioral lifestyle change, and health across the lifespan. Opportunity for collaborations with many clinical practices across the region, with whom the Department maintains robust partnerships, is encouraged. These include Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Baptist Memorial Healthcare, Memphis VA Medical Center, Regional One Medical Center, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Additional research resources include UTHSC and Le Bonheur Children's Hospital pediatric DNA biorepository ( http://www.lebonheur.org/research-and-education/research/biorepository-and-integrative-genomics-initiative/ ), and the UTHSC Enterprise Data Warehouse which houses clinical and administrative data across this hospital network.
Although this is primarily a research position, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Department of Preventive Medicine through teaching, mentoring students, and departmental service. The Department of Preventive Medicine, with over 20 full-time faculty members, is a highly collaborative and transdisciplinary department that includes expertise in preventive medicine, biostatistics, epidemiology, behavioral research, health services research, community outreach, and clinical studies. UTHSC is a major medical and research center which employees more than 4,600 people on its faculty, staff, and not-for-profit corporation faculty practice groups.
