Department: Inst Sexual Gen Minority Hlth Job Summary: The Research Study Assistant performs biomedical &/or social-behavioral research by administering tests &/or questionnaires following protocols; collecting, compiling, tabulating &/or processing responses; gathering information; &/or assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports. Completes all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH). Program Description: The Northwestern University Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH; http://www.isgmh.northwestern.edu) is a university-wide institute dedicated to fostering research that improves the health and wellbeing of the sexual and gender minority communities It currently has multiple NIH- and foundation-funded studies and actively collaborates with community-based organizations to conduct research and translate findings into interventions. It is directed by Dr. Brian Mustanski. The position is based in the Department of Medical Social Sciences in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Project Description: We are conducting a mixed-methods research study that aims to characterize racial disparities in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence and patterns of use in young gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (YMSM). In Phase I of the project, we will conduct a daily diary study of PrEP users to describe PrEP adherence, dosing strategies and usage patterns. In Phase II, we will conduct in-depth interviews with a subset YMSM PrEP users in the diary study who exhibited varying patterns of use to characterize YMSM perspectives on these issues.
