Position Summary Full time position available on or after November 12, 2019 in Health & Wellness at the Stanislaus State University-Stockton Center.
Under general direction by the Clinic Nurse Manager of the Student Health Center at the Stanislaus campus, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides skilled nursing care in areas of health screening and prevention, health assessment, health education, and promotion and emergency first aid care to students. In addition, the RN performs administrative functions, and coordinates nursing clinical activities.
Job Duties Duties include but are not limited to: Provides appropriate nursing care including assessment, triage and monitoring utilizing standardized procedures. Maintains proper medical records and utilizes SOAP format in charting notes. Work directly with clinicians in treatment of students utilizing the nursing process which includes aspects of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation in all teaching and clinical practices. Monitors and controls clinic flow. Administers medication, treatment, wound care, immunizations, injections. Performs and monitors clinical testing such as electrocardiography, peak expiratory flow rate, hearing and vision screening and other clinical testing. Performs IV insertion, administers medication/fluids as ordered, monitors and maintains infusion. Manages sterile processing and infection control. Acts as a liaison with public health agencies and hospitals as needed for Student Health Center issues related to public health. Initiates lab work, xrays, diagnostic tests, medical reports and referrals, and emergency care according to policies and procedures. Provides well-documented, accurate and sensitive telephone and walk-in advice and triage as well as patient education and self-care instruction. Performs tuberculin (PPD) skin tests, interprets results and provides information regarding referral and counseling to students as appropriate. Administers first aid to students, staff, faculty and visitors. Assists with health-related issues to other campus and departments and programs (including New Student Orientations or out-reach clinical activities, i.e., mobile vaccination clinics). Consults with physician or higher-level RN in areas which lie outside his/her scope of practice. Performs venipuncture as required to obtain blood for laboratory analysis. Maintains adequate levels of stock medications, medical and surgical supplies. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep (including calibration) of all medical equipment. Manages and monitors the county-acquired immunization supplies, logs and tallies. Assists with the development, implementation, evaluation and updates of all nursing school protocols, policies, procedures and guidelines in consultation with the Staff Physician including chart review, competency testing, orienting, reviewing work and providing input to performance evaluations. Participates in quality improvement studies and activities. Participates in staff meetings and committees. Assists in orientation and training of new employees. Assists in the Health Educator in campus-wide health programs. Other duties as needed and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education:High School Diploma or equivalent, as well as completion of a professional nursing program in an approved school of nursing or by additional preparation as approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Experience:One year of professional nursing experience which has provided evidence of the ability to work independently in specialized nursing activities and to support the overall nursing program within the Student Health Center; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
College health experience in an outpatient setting of adult patients. Ability to work independently under standardized procedures. One-year experience as a Registered Nurse in an ambulatory setting and two years progressively responsible experience as an RN in a clinical or hospital setting.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods and procedures. Thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties. Thorough knowledge of medical supplies and equipment used in nursing practice; and the uses and effects of medications and narcotics. Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to registered nursing and the scope of practice limitations of clinic support staff. Ability to effectively apply nursing knowledge and demonstrate proper techniques and skills in performing nursing duties. Ability to accurately observe and record symptoms, behaviors, and reactions to treatments in order to make a nursing diagnosis. Ability to respond with therapy to treatment reactions. Ability to use applicable health center automated systems to perform duties and maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to gain the cooperation of patients; analyze emergency situations and take prompt action. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff. Ability to be sensitive to and communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds. Must possess broader and specialized nursing knowledge that supports the performance of specialized duties in such areas as, but not limited to, triage and assessment, patient counseling, and staffing specialized nursing clinics. Must have a broader knowledge of clinic operations and the development and implementation of a nursing program, including procedures and protocols. Ability to effectively apply specialized nursing skills.
License or Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid California RN license. Must possess and maintain certification in CPR/AED. Physical Requirements The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Salary Range $4,083 - $7,878 per month plus excellent paid benefits. (Anticipated salary will be $4,083 – $5,308 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)
